Job Responsibilities
- Curriculum Delivery: Develop and deliver engaging lessons in food technology, including nutrition, food science, food safety, and culinary skills.
- Practical Demonstrations: Conduct hands-on cooking sessions and food preparation demonstrations following health and safety regulations.
- Student Assessment: Design and assess assignments, projects, and exams to evaluate students’ understanding and practical skills.
- Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, inclusive, and effective learning environment in both theory and practical settings.
- Lesson Planning: Prepare lesson plans aligned with educational standards and the school curriculum.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Enforce hygiene and safety standards in the classroom and kitchen lab.
- Resource Management: Manage kitchen equipment and food supplies effectively within budgetary constraints.
- Career Guidance: Guide students interested in food technology careers or further studies in nutrition, food science, or hospitality.
- Professional Development: Stay updated on developments in food science, education methods, and curriculum changes.
- Extracurricular Activities: Organize food-related clubs, events, or competitions to boost student engagement.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Home Science, Nutrition, or related field.
- A teaching qualification or B.Ed. is preferred or required in many institutions.
- Experience:
- 1–3 years of teaching experience in food technology or a related subject at the secondary or tertiary level.
- Industry experience in food manufacturing or culinary arts is a plus.
- Certifications (preferred or required):
- Food Safety Certification (e.g., HACCP, ServSafe)
- First Aid/Health and Safety training
- Skills:
- Strong communication and classroom management skills
- Proficiency in food lab equipment and kitchen safety protocols
- Ability to design inclusive, creative, and practical learning experiences
- IT literacy for teaching aids and digital assignments.
